Cardinal & Pine has won five awards from the NC Press Association, including two first-place awards for best video and best editorials.
Judging was done by journalists from Nebraska and a team of volunteers. Winners will be celebrated at the Press Association’s annual convention Sept. 18 in Cary. Winners include Michael McElroy, Jessica F. Simmons, and Billy Ball.

- 1st Place – Best video for Michael McElroy’s sports-themed explanation of the Jefferson Griffin case
- 1st Place – Best editorials for Billy Ball’s commentary on North Carolina news and politics
- 2nd Place – Best multimedia Project for Jessica F. Simmons’ reporting on Black men from rural NC and prostate cancer
- 3rd Place – Best video for Michael McElroy’s video on the truth about voter fraud
- 3rd Place – Breaking news reporting by Jessica F. Simmons
