Allison Bustillo Chinchilla came to the US at the age of eight.
In the 11 years since, she graduated from Crest High School in Cleveland County, partially completed an associate’s degree in nursing from Cleveland Community College, became a certified nursing assistant (CNA), and at 20 years old, received a scholarship to attend Gardner-Webb University to pursue a bachelor’s degree in nursing.
Allison was detained by ICE in February and has spent the past five months at a private prison facility in Georgia.
In an interview with Cardinal & Pine, Allison’s mom, Keily Chinchilla of Charlotte, recalled the moment Allison found out that she was going to be taken to Georgia by ICE.
“She cried horribly and said ’mom I don’t want to go,’” Chinchilla said. “To say goodbye to my daughter in that moment was very difficult.”
